Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board (WWETB) are very pleased to announce that sanction has been received from the Department of Education and Skills for a permanent extension to Dungarvan College – Coláiste Dhún Garbhán. The extension will consist of a new Art classroom and 2 no. Special Education Needs (SEN) bases.
Councillor Jim Moore, Chairperson of WWETB commented that he was delighted that this long awaited facility had been sanctioned and would add to the excellent facilities at the College.
Kevin Lewis, Chief Executive of WWETB stated that he was very pleased that this approval has been received; it was a vote of confidence in the College by all concerned and he paid tribute to the school management, staff, parents/guardians, students and Board of Management who have all contributed to this growing school at both post primary and Post leaving Cert (PLC) level. The approval received will enable the appointment of a Design Team to oversee the project and the process will commence immediately.
Danny Cunningham, Principal of Dungarvan College-Coláiste Dhún Garbhán, said he was delighted with the announcement of funding for the extension and said, “It is needed to accommodate the 30% increase in enrolments on the post primary side of the College. Enrolments have been significantly growing over recent years and the present accommodation has reached full capacity. This is a wonderful day for the broader Dungarvan community but is particularly significant for ASD students at Dungarvan College who will directly benefit from these new bases. They will have this ‘state of the art’ facility on their doorsteps.”
