Christmas Day celebrations were recently held at Waterford College of Further Education, including a gigantic Dunktank, an intense sport and fitness challenge and a live performance by sound engineering students on campus. The College was alive with Christmas spirit and daytime parties and festivities were topped off by a huge night out in the ever popular local nightspot, the Kazbar. The events were structured to raise money for the local Marine Search and Rescue and over 270 euro was raised from the Dunktank alone, keeping up the WCFE tradition of supporting its community.
Staff braved the ice cold water of the Dunktank, completely at the mercy of a queue of enthusiastic students, all anxious to drop their respective tutors into the bosom of the tank. One after the other they fell, each time generating more funds for Marine Search and Rescue. This was followed by an eclectic mix of musical talent, from rap to ballads in the dance studio in WCFE, organized by the sound engineering classes in the College. A full sound stage was set up and the very best musical talent in the College performed for prizes and title of ‘Best Act. The sports challenge was an intense aerobic fitness contest between the current sports classes and past students, who were invited back to participate. Victory belonged to the visitors, who set a new record for completing the challenge. It was a close call however, only four Burpees separated the sides in the finish. The event was rounded off with the WCFE Christmas student night out, kicking off in the Kasbar.
