Waterford & Wexford Education & Training board are one of 16 current grantees who receive funding under the BenefIT programme via the Dept. of Telecommunications. The programme’s aim is to get people on-line. Since 2011, the programme has trained over one thousand people in counties Waterford & Wexford in Basic Digital Literacy skills (focusing on harder to reach groups such as older people, the unemployed and disadvantaged people). Nationally, the scheme has trained over 100,000 people in basic IT skills.
Learners receive 10-16 hours training in basic internet skills such as internet searching, using email, Skype, conducting online transactions, etc. in small classes. Classes take place all around counties Wexford & Waterford.
Many learners have fed back to us that they feel less isolated, more in touch with family abroad, have found employment and many have gone on to progress to a further education courses.
