Introduction to VTOS:

What’s involved and who can apply?

We aim to give unemployed people education and training opportunities which will develop their employability. By completing a VTOS course participants will gain recognised national qualifications up to QQI level 5.

The centre provides a supportive environment for learners who wish to return to education at any stage of their adult lives. You will have the chance to update your education and skills and will be prepared to engage in further education or to gain paid employment.

A VTOS course is provided free of charge. Students also get a training allowance equal to their social welfare payment and are entitled to a meal and travel allowance as well. To qualify for VTOS, generally students must be:

Here is what some of our students have said:

“I am very happy on the course. I am learning new things. Teachers are very friendly, helpful and patient.”

“I found the course beneficial in regards to renewing and learning new chef skills. I also learned a lot of theory on food that I did not know before. I most enjoyed the practical lessons in cookery and baking. I was glad of this opportunity to go back to education.”

“This course has made me more confident in myself. I have learned a lot from this course. The teachers I have are very helpful and understanding – so full praise to them! The enjoyable part is the people I have met, I would not have done it without them.”

“Having come from the wilds of life, VTOS has benefited me by making me become more civilised. My life impact can’t be written in words but I’ll never forget my time here. Even the bad parts were enjoyable because VTOS is a team of effective people.”

“It teaches you new things and the teachers are very friendly and helpful. It prepares you with the skills you need to get a job.”
